Department Welcomes Dr. Michael Lane to Faculty

The Department of Exercise and Sport Science's newest faculty member is Dr. Michael Lane. Dr. Lane hails from Missouri and recently completed his PhD from the University of Kansas. He has a Master of Science degree in nutrition and dietetics from Saint Louis University and a Bachelor of Science in Non-Comprehensive Biology from Missouri State University.

ESS Awards Outstanding Students, Faculty, Alumnus

The Department of Exercise and Sport Science held its annual Honor Awards Day ceremony on May 2, 2014 in the Moberly Building. President Michael Benson welcomed students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends as 8 outstanding student awards, 1 outstanding alumnus, 3 scholarship awards, and 3 faculty awards were handed out by Department faculty. The list of award recipients included:

Ferguson Awarded Excellence in Teaching Award

Dr. John Ferguson was awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award at its annual Honor Awards Day ceremony on May 2, 2014. Dr. Ferguson is the teacher and main advisor in the P-12 Teacher Education program and has been so for many years.

McAdam Awarded Excellence in Service Award

Dr. Marianne McAdam was awarded the Excellence in Service Award at its annual Honor Awards Day ceremony on May 2, 2014. The award was given in large part for her 25 years of work as the creator, manager, choreographer and dancer in EKU Dance Theatre. Dance Theatre is a twice annual feature production involving  4-5 shows at each of the Spring and Fall concerts.

Summers Receives Excellence in Scholarship Award

 

Dr. Louisa Summers was awarded The Department of Exercise and Sport Science Excellence in Scholarship Award at its Honor Awards ceremony on May 2, 2014.  Dr. Summers has been an active researcher, writer and presenter since she joined the Department  in 2000.

Tashenberg Awarded EKU Student Scholar Award

Undergraduate sport management student Marissa Tashenberg has been selected as an EKU Student Scholar for 2013-14. Tashenberg was presented with the award at the EKU Scholar's Assembly, April 18. Her Mom and Dad were on hand for the ceremony.

Holzapfel Wins Outstanding Thesis Award

Former graduate student Simon Holzapfel was awarded the Graduate Studies Outstanding Thesis award for his research poster entitled, "Effects of Endurance Training on the Relationship Between Digit Ratio (2D:4D) and VO2 max" at the EKU Scholar's Assembly on April 18.

Faculty Present at Southern District Convention

Department of Exercise and Sport Science faculty were prominent among presenters at the recent Southern District of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance convention held February 19-22, 2014 in Lexington, KY. A total of eight faculty presented 11 sessions at the convention. The presentations included:

Holzapfel Presents at ACSM Conference

EKU exercise and sport science graduate student Simon Holzapfel recently presented an abstract entitled Relationship between a proxy of pre-natal testosterone and maximal oxygen uptake: A pilot study at the 60th annual American College of Sports Medicine conference this past May in Indianapolis.

ESS Honor Awards Day 2013

Fifteen students and one alumnus received most outstanding awards at the 2013 Department of Exercise and Sport Science Honor Awards Day ceremony held Friday, May 3 in Richmond. Award winners and their family and friends joined Department faculty and staff for a buffet lunch preceding the ceremony.
