ESS Faculty Receive Excellence Awards

Joel Cormier received the Excellence in Service award from Chair Jack Rutherford

Four Department of Exercise and Sport Science faculty received excellence awards at the Department's annual Honor Awards Day ceremony on May 13. Dr. Matt Sabin received the Excellence in Advising Award. The award is voted by the students, who cited Dr. Sabin's caring nature and attentiveness.

Katie Atkinson receives the Outstanding Senior Award from Dr. Jim Larkin

Senior Katie Atkinson was one of nine students and one alumnus who received awards at the Department of Exercise and Sport Science Honor Awards Day ceremony on May 13 at EKU. Atkinson, a native of Westchester, Ohio and a Physical Fitness and Wellness Management major, also garnered the Service Merit Award for her extensive list of service activities at EKU. 

Duncan Named Outstanding Alumna for ESS

Lori Duncan receives Outstanding Alumna award from Joel Cormier

EKU Colonels women's volleyball coach Lori Duncan was selected as the Outstanding Alumna at the annual Honor Awards Day ceremony of the Department of Exercise and Sport Science on May 13. Duncan graduated with a Bachelor of Recreation and Park Administration with a minor in Physical Education in 1984.

ESS Students Present at Health Sciences Scholarship Day

Twenty Exercise and Sport Science students presented posters at the second annual College of Health Sciences Scholarship Day held April 19 at the EKU Center for the Arts. The scholarly work reflected individual and student-faculty research, case studies and literature reviews in athletic training, sport management, coaching, exercise physiology, human performance and fitness.

     Jim Hinerman, senior clinical faculty in Eastern Kentucky University's Department of Exercise and Sport Science, has been awarded the highest honor bestowed by the Kentucky Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (KAHPERD). Hinerman received the 2015 Walter H.

Exercise and Sport Science Students Showcase Scholarly Work

Graduate student Michelle Kuzma received an outstanding poster award for her poster, "Current Concussion Knowledge and Return-to-Learn Management Guidelines for Educational Professionals" at the College of Health Sciences "Celebrating Student Scholarship: Improving Kentucky's Health" event on April 30th at the EKU Center for the Arts.

Alumnus Bowman Making her Mark

In 2010 Kayla Bowman was a senior Physical Education major in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science. She now works for the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a non-profit group founded by the Clinton Foundation and the American Heart Association.

Anderson Receives KAHPERD Student Major of the Year Award

Whitney Anderson, a senior Physical Education major at Eastern Kentucky University was recently selected as the Kentucky Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Student Major of the Year. Whitney was nominated by her advisor for the award because she is what the profession needs in future teachers. She is very involved in student activities at EKU.
