From Bachelor's to Master's: The Degree Saga Concludes for EKU AT Program

On May 1, 2015, EKU’s Athletic Training Program began the process of transitioning from a BS in AT to a MS in AT degree by seeking a substantive change in degree from the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).

Effective July 1st, 2016, the department of Exercise & Sports Science welcomes a new department chair as Dr. Eric J. Fuchs succeeds Dr. Jack Rutherford, who has served the department with distinction as faculty member and chair for twenty years. 

Dept. Exercise & Sport Science holds Inaugral MS in AT Clinical Induction Ceremony

The inaugral cohort in the MS in AT program at Eastern Kentucky University participated in EKU's first ever MS in AT Clinical Induction Ceremony. Many healthcare professionals participate in similar traditions, marking the  readiness of students to begin the educational process that includes patient care.

ESS Faculty Receive Excellence Awards

Joel Cormier received the Excellence in Service award from Chair Jack Rutherford

Four Department of Exercise and Sport Science faculty received excellence awards at the Department's annual Honor Awards Day ceremony on May 13. Dr. Matt Sabin received the Excellence in Advising Award. The award is voted by the students, who cited Dr. Sabin's caring nature and attentiveness.

Katie Atkinson receives the Outstanding Senior Award from Dr. Jim Larkin

Senior Katie Atkinson was one of nine students and one alumnus who received awards at the Department of Exercise and Sport Science Honor Awards Day ceremony on May 13 at EKU. Atkinson, a native of Westchester, Ohio and a Physical Fitness and Wellness Management major, also garnered the Service Merit Award for her extensive list of service activities at EKU. 

Duncan Named Outstanding Alumna for ESS

Lori Duncan receives Outstanding Alumna award from Joel Cormier

EKU Colonels women's volleyball coach Lori Duncan was selected as the Outstanding Alumna at the annual Honor Awards Day ceremony of the Department of Exercise and Sport Science on May 13. Duncan graduated with a Bachelor of Recreation and Park Administration with a minor in Physical Education in 1984.
