Summers Receives Excellence in Scholarship Award
Dr. Louisa Summers was awarded The Department of Exercise and Sport Science Excellence in Scholarship Award at its Honor Awards ceremony on May 2, 2014. Dr. Summers has been an active researcher, writer and presenter since she joined the Department in 2000.
This past year, she published one article in the national journal Palaestra entitled, “An introduction to wheelchair tennis for future athletes and coaches.”
She also presented research papers at two national conferences, including the World Congress on Brain Injury in San Francisco. Dr. Summers also gave two regional, one state and one local presentation in 2013-14. Her line of research is adapted physical education.
This past year she served as a thesis committee chair or member for two master’s theses, one of which was presented at the American College of Sports Medicine annual meeting.
In 2013, Dr. Summers secured a WHAS Crusade for Children grant in support of the Kentucky Adapted Physical Education (KAPE) program, a joint venture between EKU and the Telford YMCA in Richmond.
The Department of Exercise and Sport Science extends its congratulations to Dr. Summers on this outstanding achievement.
