Sport Management Students Work Super Bowl
Eleven EKU Sport Management program students got to experience the thrill of Super Bowl XLVII as volunteer workers. They were recently invited along with Department professors Wardell Johnson and Joel Cormier to be a part of the event's organizing committee in New Orleans.
On Super Bowl Friday, the students, Derek O'Neal, Shaylyne Walters, Demarius Gibson, Gregory Adams, Chris Heil, James Bruce, Candace Mosby, William Hogan, Sidney Allen, Margaret Doty, and David Mansfield worked the Fan Zone where the students interacted with fans from around the world.
On Saturday, the students worked the Digital TV Celebrity Bowl where each was assigned to a celebrity and escorted them to different planned events via the Digital TV “Blue Carpet” culminating with a flag football game shown on network television.
Saturday night the student volunteers were given complimentary admission to a $1000-a-ticket celebrity event and concert by Justin Timberlake. They were given free reign to mingle and network with many “mover and shakers” within the entertainment, business and NFL community.
Sunday was game day but the students didn't get to see the game itself as tickets were at a premium. Overall, Super Bowl weekend was a fantastic opportunity for Sport Management students and the Department is already looking forward to taking students to New York in 2014.
