In 2009 Robert Harris began his quest for a Master of Science degree at Eastern Kentucky University. Today, he is the Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Arkansas Razorbacks football program.
Dr. John Ferguson's PHE 323 - Elementary Physical Education methods class recently took a roadtrip to Redbird Mission School in Beverley, KY at which they taught all the physical education classes at the P-12 school. A total of 10 students made the trip which involved staying overnight in the small rustic rural community.
11 EKU Sport Management program students got to experience the thrill of Super Bowl XLVII as volunteer workers recently as they were invited along with Exercise and Sport Science Department professors Wardell Johnson and Joel Cormier to be a part of the event's organizing committee in New Orleans.
Athletic Training major Kelsey Neumann has been named the Department of Exercise and Sport Science Student Scholar of the Year for 2013. Neumann, a native of Winchester, is a junior with a 4.0 GPA. She will graduate in May, 2014 and hopes to pursue a Masters Degree in Athletic Training.
Associate Professor John Ferguson of the Departments of Exercise and Sport Science and Curriculum and Instruction received the 2012 Walter H. Mustain Award from the Kentucky Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance at its annual convention November 13, 2012. The Mustain is the highest honor bestowed by KAHPERD.
On Saturday, November 10, President Doug Whitlock dedicated the Harold Z. Holmes Exercise Physiology Laboratory in the Moberly Building. Approximately 75 people were on hand for the ceremony. Dr. Deborah Whitehouse, Dean of the College of Health Sciences brought congratulations from the College and highlighted Dr. Holmes' distinguished career that spanned 30 years of service to EKU.
Brittney Fisher's passion is NASCAR so when she was offered an internship at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, it was a lifelong dream come true. The sport management major attended a career fair in Indianapolis and interviewed for the internship position. After several follow-up calls, she was offered a season-long internship at the world famous speedway.
Graduate student Jeff Johnson experienced a thrill this summer getting to work for the US Open at the Olympic Club in San Francisco. There he took photographs, videotaped interviews, and wrote pieces for the NCGA magazine and website. Johnson is on a six month internship with the Northern California Golf Association in Pebble Beach.
Dr. Joel Cormier. a native of Prince Edward Island, Canada, joined the EKU Department of Exercise and Sport Science faculty in August. Dr. Cormier taught most recently at the University of Ottawa in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
Exercise and Wellness program graduate student Cardario Jackson has landed a summer internship at the prestigious Duke Diet and Fitness Center on the campus of Duke University. Jackson began the internship May 21 and will spend the next three months working at the facility.
